Louisiana Monroe-Arkansas Capsule
By The Associated Press
(AP) -- Louisiana-Monroe (0-0) at No. 8 Arkansas (1-0), 7 p.m. (ESPNU)
Line: Arkansas by 30 1/2.
Series Record: Arkansas leads 9-0.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Arkansas is in need of a confidence boost after a lackluster season-opening win over FCS Jacksonville State. The Razorbacks, under first-year defensive coordinator Paul Haynes, allowed 163 yards passing in the first half by the Gamecocks and trailed 14-7 in the second quarter before the offense came alive in a 49-24 win. Louisiana-Monroe, which faces another Southeastern Conference opponent next week at Auburn, is no stranger to saying close with Arkansas - leading 27-14 in the fourth quarter in 2008 before falling 28-27.
Louisiana-Monroe wide receiver Brent Leonard vs. Arkansas' secondary. Leonard earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors last season, leading the Warhawks in catches (69), receiving yards (751) and touchdown catches (four). The Razorbacks' pass defense was 10th in the SEC last season and was shaky at best against Jacksonville State. Senior CB Darius Winston was pulled during the first half and has battled this week with senior Kaelon Kellybrew for the starting spot against Louisiana-Monroe.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Louisiana-Monroe: QB Kolton Browning. The junior played against Arkansas two seasons ago as a freshman. The left-hander started all 12 games last season for the Warhawks and accounted for 2,926 yards of total offense (2,483 passing, 443 rushing) and 18 touchdowns.
Arkansas: WR Cobi Hamilton. The senior missed most of the opener with a head injury suffered on a hard tackle in the first quarter. He's expected back this week and always seems to save his biggest games for Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium - where he has seven touchdowns in six career games.
