Southern Miss RB Woodyard arrested for robbery

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Southern Mississippi running back Jamal Woodyard has been arrested and charged with felony second-degree robbery.

The Baldwin Country Corrections Center website says Woodyard entered the jail on Saturday and has been released on $15,000 bail. The 21-year-old from Fairhope, Ala., led the Golden Eagles with 732 rushing yards last season while averaging 6.7 yards per carry. He scored three touchdowns.

The 5-foot-8, 202-pound Woodyard suffered a knee injury during the team's season-ending victory over Nevada in the Hawaii Bowl, and was expected to redshirt during the coming season.

Southern Miss coach Ellis Johnson said in a statement from the university on Monday that he's "been made aware of the situation regarding Jamal and will continue to gather the facts of this case."
