Wofford edges Chattanooga 28-27 in Southern finale

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) Mitch Allen punched in a 1-yard touchdown run with 37 seconds left to play, keeping Wofford's hopes alive for an at-large Football Championship Subdivision playoff berth with a 28-27 win over Chattanooga on Saturday.

Chattanooga led for nearly the entire game, leading 27-14 after Nick Pollard kicked consecutive field goals of 27 and 23 yards.

But Wofford (8-3, 6-2 Southern Conference) rallied, as Donovan Johnson's 51-yard scoring run with 8:08 left in the fourth quarter brought the Terriers back within a touchdown.

Later, with Chattanooga (5-6, 3-5) driving with more than five minutes left, Alvin Scioneaux intercepted a B.J. Coleman pass to set Wofford up at the Mocs' 48-yard line. Nine plays later, the Wofford quarterback snuck in for the winning score.

Johnson finished with 141 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Wofford, which racked up 358 rush yards, while Eric Breitenstein had 140 and a score on the ground.
