Smith leads Rice past Tulane 19-7

HOUSTON (AP) Tyler Smith ran for 145 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns, and Chris Boswell made two long field goals to lead Rice over Tulane 19-7 on Saturday.

Smith opened the scoring for Rice (4-7, 3-5 Conference USA), with a 5-yard TD with 1:20 left in the first quarter. He scored his second touchdown from 12 yards with 1:04 to play to seal the win for Rice, which finished 4-1 at home.

Boswell's 54-yard field goal with 11 seconds left in the first half made it 10-0 Rice. He also connected from 51 yards late in the third quarter.

Ryan Griffin completed 19 of 39 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown for the Green Wave (2-10, 1-7), who lost their last nine games.
