Jacksonville State beats S.E. Missouri State 22-21

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) Calvin Middleton rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns, helping Jacksonville State rally for a 22-21 win Saturday over Southeast Missouri State.

Middleton scored on a 17-yard run before halftime, then added two TDs in the third quarter as the Gamecocks (6-4, 5-2 Ohio Valley) erased a 21-9 deficit. Neither team scored in the fourth.

Matt Scheible ran for 209 yards, a record for Southeast Missouri State quarterbacks, and a touchdown for the Redhawks (3-7, 2-5), but completed just five passes for 26 yards, with two interceptions.

The Redhawks had the ball late in the fourth quarter but couldn't get into field goal range. Scheible hit Spencer Davis on fourth down, but Davis was stopped well short of a first down and Jacksonville State ran out the clock.

Davis and Ron Coleman added rushing scores for the Redhawks. James Esco kicked a 41-yard field goal for Jacksonville State.
