Late Coastal Carolina rally tops Presbyterian 15-8
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) Jamie Childers' 35-yard touchdown pass to DeMario Bennett - just his second and last completion of the night - with less than five minutes left gave Coastal Carolina a 15-8 victory over Presbyterian Saturday night in Big South action.
The Chanticleers (5-4, 2-3) held Presbyterian (2-7, 1-3) without a touchdown and ended a three-game losing streak. But it wasn't easy. After Aramis Hillary scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter to give Coastal a 7-0 lead, Presbyterian played like anything but a team that had lost five of its previous six games.
The Blue Hose got two field goals from Aaron Maves - one in the first quarter, another in the second - and a safety to lead 8-7 entering the fourth quarter. But Childers, just 2 for 14 passing, hit Bennett for the game-winner with 4:48 left. After Cody Craig's 2-point conversion run, Coastal held on.
