McFarland interception preserves Idaho State's 25-21 win
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) Defensive back Christian McFarland picked off a North Dakota pass late in the game, sealing a 25-21 win for Idaho State on Saturday afternoon.
North Dakota, trailing by three, was threatening deep in Bengals territory with just over a minute to play when McFarland intercepted Nate Ketteringham's 4th-down pass, preserving the win for Idaho State.
Brothers Tanner and Mitch Gueller had put the Bengals (2-1) ahead for good late in the fourth quarter on a 67-yard pass reception touchdown.
Tanner Gueller threw for 293 yards and a touchdown. Ty Flanagan ran for 119 yards and James Madison added 106 rushing yards and a score. Campbell Sheidow kept the Bengals alive with four field goals.
Sheidow booted field goals of 44 and 38 yards in the first quarter and two from 22 yards in the second. Madison ran for a touchdown and the Bengals trailed 21-19 at halftime.
Ketteringham had 224 yards and two touchdowns passing for the Fighting Hawks (2-2).
