Maine 23, Richmond 22
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Warren Smith's 1-yard touchdown run capped a 23-point fourth quarter rally and Maine defeated Richmond 23-22 on Saturday.
The Black Bears (6-1, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 16-7 with 13:07 remaining before Smith started the rally on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Justin Perillo 6 seconds into the fourth quarter.
The Spiders (3-4, 0-3) answered with a 2-yard touchdown run by Rich Turner, but the extra point was blocked by Michael Cole. Maine's Jerron McMillian then ran it back to make it 22-9 early in the fourth quarter.
David Hood then made it a six-point game on a 5-yard score with 9:14 to go, capping a 13-play, 72-yard drive.
Hood finished with 77 yards on 13 carries and Smith was 31 of 51 for 289 yards and a touchdown in Maine's fifth-straight win.
Aaron Corp led the Spiders with 301 yards and two touchdowns on 32-of-44 passing.
