Montana St. defeats Sacramento St. 31-21
BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) DeNarius McGhee threw two long touchdown passes to Elvis Akpla, including a school-record 95-yarder, to lead Montana State to 31-21 win over Sacramento State on Saturday.
The win was the fourth straight for the Bobcats (4-1, 2-0 Big Sky) after a season-opening loss at Utah.
Trailing 7-3 in the second quarter, McGhee scrambled from his end zone and hit Akpla in stride at midfield. Akpla, who finished with six catches for 174 yards, ran untouched the rest of the way to set a Bobcat record for longest pass play.
John Hendershott took the ensuing kickoff 91 yards to put the Hornets (2-3, 1-2) back on top, but five plays later McGhee found Akpla from 41 yards out to put MSU ahead to stay, 17-14.
The Bobcats also got two touchdowns and 134 yards rushing from Cody Kirk.
Sacramento State's other scores came on a 15-yard run by Bryan Hilliard and a 16-yard pass from Jeff Fleming to Brandyn Reed.
