Canisius stops Manhattan in final seconds for 77-76 win

NEW YORK (AP) Jermaine Crumpton had 26 points and nine rebounds on Friday night, and Canisius stopped Manhattan on the final possession to secure a 77-76 win in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Phil Valenti hit a pair of free throws with 32 seconds left that made it 77-74 for the Golden Griffins (3-4). Zavier Turner closed Manhattan's deficit on a layup with 23 seconds left.

Canisius' Malik Johnson missed both free throws with 15 seconds left to give Manhattan (2-5) a chance to win on its final trip. Both teams called timeouts with 8.1 seconds to go and Kassius Robertson stole it from Turner to prevent the Jaspers from getting a shot in the final seconds.
