AP source: North Texas going to Conference USA

(AP) -- A person with direct knowledge of the plan says that North Texas is moving to Conference USA.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday to The Associated Press because an official announcement had not yet been made about the school's move from the Sun Belt Conference in July 2013.

North Texas has scheduled a news conference for Friday about the "future of Mean Green athletics." That news conference with the school's president and athletic director will be held at the school's $78 million campus football stadium that opened last season.

The Denton campus of more than 28,000 undergraduate students is not far from Conference USA's headquarters in Irving, Texas.
