Stephen F. Austin defeats Sam Houston State 58-47
The Lumberjacks (18-11, 11-4 Southland Conference), who shot 20 of 41 (48.8 percent) from the floor and won the rebounding battle 29-23, maintained the second-best record in league play.
Demarcus Gatlin scored 13 points for the Bearkats (12-18, 6-9), who have lost six of their last seven games at home. Sam Houston State is one of three teams fighting for the last two spots in next week's conference tournament.
Stephen F. Austin led for all but the first minute of the game, building a 29-20 halftime margin and leading by 17 points in the second half.
