Division II Urbana beats Chicago State 59-55
CHICAGO (AP) Ramel Mitchell scored 17 points as Urbana picked up its first victory in school history over a Division I team with a 59-55 win over Chicago State on Saturday.
Sharif Muhammad Jr. added 14 points and Marcus Pearl 12 for the Division II Blue Knights (8-18), who compete in the Ohio Independents League. Dyrell Dolson had 11 rebounds.
Urbana had failed in its previous 21 tries against Division I programs.
Lee Fisher's 12 points paced the Cougars (4-24). Jeremy Robinson and Ardarius Simmons added 11 apiece, and Clarke Rosenberg grabbed 11 boards.
The Blue Knights scored the first seven points but trailed 27-25 at the half.
Pearl's three-point play gave Urbana a 55-47 edge with 2:33 left before Fisher, Rosenberg and Simmons brought the Cougars within 55-53 with 1:10 to go. But Mitchell hit four free throws to clinch it.
