Young leads IUPUI over Nicholls State 84-80

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Alex Young scored 25 points to lead IUPUI to an 84-80 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday.

The Jaguars (13-16) led 72-59 with 4:35 remaining, but a 10-2 run by the Colonels (8-17), capped by a 3-pointer and a layup by Chris Talkington, cut it to 74-69 with 2:50 left in the Bracket Busters game.

Young, who came in averaging 20.8 points, hit two free throws to move the lead back to seven points, and Shane Rillieux responded with 1 of 2 for Nicholls State.

On IUPUI's next possession, the Jaguars ran the shot clock down, but Ian Chiles missed a 16-footer. Young grabbed the offensive rebound and made a layup for a 78-70 lead with 1:25 to go.

Christian Siakam and Stephen Thomas scored 14 points each for the Jaguars, and Chiles added 13.

Talkington led the Colonels with 16 points, and Rillieux had 15.
