Hot-shooting IUPUI beats South Dakota 88-70
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Christian Siakam had 17 points and nine rebounds and Alex Young added 16 points, five assists and four steals as IUPUI defeated South Dakota 88-70 on Wednesday night.
Sean Esposito scored 15 points and Stephen Thomas 14 for the Jaguars (12-16, 6-10 Summit League), who shot 60.3 percent (35 of 58) from the floor, including 10 of 17 from 3-point range.
Louie Krogman had 24 points, seven assists and four steals, and Trevor Gruis added 15 points for the Coyotes (9-16, 4-12).
The game got away from South Dakota late in the first half.
Esposito and Young hit a 3-pointer each to key a 12-0 IUPUI run in a 2:19 stretch. The surge gave the Jaguars a 40-23 lead with 3:17 left in the half, and the Coyotes got no closer than 14 points afterward.
IUPUI had a 31-25 rebounding edge and outscored South Dakota 44-28 in the paint.
Charlie Westbrook scored 14 points for the Coyotes.
