Cornell reaches Ivy League Tournament, tops Dartmouth 86-75
HANOVER, N.H. (AP) Jack Gordon and Matt Morgan each scored 16 points and Cornell earned its way into the first-ever Ivy League tournament, beating Dartmouth 86-75, and getting the help it needed on the final Saturday of the regular season.
For the Big Red to make the tournament, win or lose, they needed Harvard to beat Columbia and Yale to beat Princeton. When that happened, coupled with the win in Hanover, and Cornell was in the tournament.
Cornell (12-15, 6-8) will face Harvard in a semifinal game Saturday at the Palestra on the Penn campus in Philadelphia. Penn plays Yale in the other semi.
The Big Red built a six-point lead in the first half and pushed the advantage to 11 points on Steven Julian's free throw with 16 minutes to play. The Big Green got the lead into single digits on several occasions, but Cornell always had a ready answer.
Cornell finished shooting 63.3 percent from the field (31 of 49), including 9 of 18 from beyond the arc and 15 of 18 from the line. Julian and Josh Warren each added 11 points.
