Western Carolina tops Appalachian State 83-75
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) Trey Sumler scored 27 points as Western Carolina defeated Appalachian State 83-75 Saturday in the Southern Conference regular-season finale for both teams.
It was the fourth straight win for the Catamounts (14-17, 8-10), who got a superb all-around effort from Sumler. The guard made 9 of 16 field goal attempts, including 3 of 5 from the 3-point arc. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Mountaineers, who lost their third straight, led by as many as 12 points in the first half before the score was tied 34-all at intermission. Western Carolina led by 15 with 3:47 left to win comfortably.
