McDowell, William & Mary hold off Hofstra 75-71

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Quinn McDowell scored 21 points and Brandon Britt knocked down a 3-pointer with 18.1 seconds left to secure William & Mary's 75-71 win over Hofstra on Wednesday night.

Britt finished with 14 points for the Tribe (6-24, 4-13 Colonial Athletic Association), who shot a season-high 55.6 percent from the field (25 of 45) and made 10 of 25 from long range.

William & Mary led 42-39 at halftime and built a seven-point lead on two occasions, the last at 63-56 with 9:22 to go.

The Pride (9-21, 2-1) closed the gap to 70-69 with 4:28 to go, then both teams went cold. McDowell made two free throws more than 3 minutes apart, then Mike Moore sank two foul shots for Hofstra with 49 seconds left to again get within a point. After Britt's trey, the Tribe missed their final two attempts from the field.

Moore's 25 points led the Pride.
