Tate leads Delaware State over NC Central 76-60
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Tahj Tate scored 20 points to lead Delaware State to a 76-70 victory over North Carolina Central in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday.
The Hornets (6-11, 3-3), who won their second in a row after losing eight straight, overcame 28 points by Ray Willis for the Eagles (9-11, 3-4), including 12 of 13 free throws in the second half.
Delaware State led 35-22 with 2:03 remaining in the first half after a 16-2 run that included eight points by Tate.
The Hornets never trailed in the second half, but their lead dwindled to 74-70 with 21 seconds left. After a steal by Willis led to an unsuccessful 3-pointer by Tramar Beaman, Jay Threatt's two free throws gave Delaware State its final margin.
